A dinâmica da agricultura periurbana no município de Nova Iguaçu - RJ

O presente trabalho busca, a partir do estudo da involução e do quadro atual do espaço agrário do município de Nova Iguaçu (RJ), responder questionamentos quanto ao grau de intensidade da expansão urbana na "era dos loteamentos" na área rural próxima a cidade do Rio de Janeiro que foi convertida em um espaço periurbano. Até o início do processo de loteamento o município apresentava características rurais e uma estrutura social baseada na citricultura. A partir da eclosão da Segunda Guerra Mundial as exportações foram interrompidas, levando a produção da laranja a um forte declínio. Essa temática foi muito discutida nos estudos de Geografia Urbana a partir de 1960. Tais estudos tiveram uma perspectiva de que houve o fim do ciclo da laranja e o início da atuação dos agentes modeladores do uso do solo urbano através do fracionamento das terras de Nova Iguaçu. Questiona-se até que ponto houve um declínio tão rápido da atividade agrícola do município, de forma a levar a sua conversão de uso rural para uso urbano. A metodologia se baseia em dados primários e secundários, além de uma discussão teórica sobre os espaços periurbano e rural, analisando sua interface rural-urbana. A agricultura resiste ao avanço da urbanização e é parte de um processo dinâmico de contínua mudança sócio-espacial gerado por uma situação de permanente conflito de interesses e disputas de áreas por usos urbanos e rurais, típicos nas áreas agrícolas da periferia metropolitana. Nesse sentido, é feito um estudo acerca da dinâmica do espaço agrário periurbano, tendo em vista identificar suas características, limitações e tendências recentes.

The present work search, starting from the study of the involution and of the current picture of the agrarian space of the municipal district of Nova Iguaçu (RJ), to answer question as for the degree of intensity of the urban expansion in the it was "of the divisions into lots" in the close rural area the city of Rio de Janeiro that was converted in rural-urban fringe
Until the beginning of the division into lots process the municipal district presented rural characteristics and a social structure based in orange production. Starting from the appearance of Second World War the exports were interrupted, taking the production of the orange to a fort decline. That theme was very discussed in the studies of Urban Geography starting from 1960. Such studies had a perspective that there were the end of the cycle of the orange and the beginning of the performance of the agents of the use of the urban soil through the division of the lands of Nova Iguaçu. It is questioned to what extent there was a such fast decline of the agricultural activity of the municipal district, in way to take conversion of rural use for urban use. The methodology bases on primary and secondary data, besides a theoretical discussion on the rural-urban fringe, analyzing in rural-urban interface.
The agriculture resists to the progress of the urbanization and it is part of a dynamic process of continuous partner-space change generated by a situation of permanent conflict of interests and disputes of areas by urban and rural uses, typical in the agricultural areas of the metropolitan periphery. In that sense, it is made a study concerning the dynamics of the rural-urban fringe, tends in view to identify their characteristics, limitations and recent tendencies.
