O presente texto busca na teoria de Neil Smith uma inter-pretação sobre as raízes urbanas e os limites do neoliberalismo como forma política do atual momento da acumulação capitalista. O nosso objetivo com este texto é apresentar como a forma política do neoliberalismo se configura e como podemos refletir sobre esse processo a partir do seu trabalho. Através de sua principal obra teórica “Desenvolvimento desigual” (1988), mas também a partir dos apontamentos mais recentes em seu artigo “As cidades após o neoliberalismo? [2009]”, propomos reconstituir a sua abordagem sobre o neoliberalismo.

The present text seeks in Neil Smith’s theory an interpre-tation of the urban roots and limits of neoliberalism as a political form of the current moment of capitalist accumu-lation. Our objective with this text is to present how the political form of neoliberalism is configured and how we can reflect on this process from his work. Through his main theoretical work “Unequal development” (1988), but also from the most recent notes in his article “Cities after neoliberalism?” [2009], we propose to reconstitute his approach to neoliberalism.
